Well, eventually there are so many pieces of information that we once again have a situation of "information overload", which in itself is as useless as data again. Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing since the mid-1990s through today is about integrating data from across databases supporting a variety of software applications. The challenges facing "data integration" (data discovery, extraction, cleansing) were non-trivial, but feasbile with the contemporary technology. However, data integration is just the first step towards  decision support.
